Help me before I am led into a possible occasion of sin

My brother suggested we see the movie The Hangover Part 2 tonight. Knowing this would be morally questionable, I looked to see what the USCCB had to say about it. They gave it an O (for “morally offensive”), and it had so many bad things in it. I don’t want to see it, but if I just tell my brother it’s because it’s immoral, then he will just call me hypersensitive, as he always does. What can I say or do to get out of this?

you’ve got something else to do

you’re not under any obligation to tell him why you don’t want to see this particular movie. could be that it’s just not something you’re interested in.

Go do something else. Say you don’t want to see it because you think it’s classless. He shouldn’t pressure you into seeing something you don’t want.

I dunno man, the first movie was pretty hilarious. You don’t have to agree with the moral implications of a movie to enjoy the humor, ya know.

In all seriousness though, if you don’t feel comfortable going just tell him you don’t like sequels. They are usually dumb anyway.

Tell your brother very firmly that you do not want to go watch that movie. He really does not need to know why you choose not to do so. If he insists then just tell him it is not your kind of movie. Walk away from him. Do not let him convince you.
Going into a situation which you know may lead you to sin is wrong. He can call you anything he likes. Your only concern is not to succumb to his wishes.

If feel this strong bout movie. No Go. If brother no understand, then so what? Conscience clear. You sleep good. No sin then. I watch movie for both us. I enjoy.

I haven’t seen the first and have no intentions of seeing the second. I rarely see a movie in theaters anyhow. Occasionally maybe a family movie with my niece but other than that nope. Before coming back to the church, I liked pointless comedies like that. Not to the point where it was all I watched, but enough that I was kind of at least entertained. After returning to the church, Hot Tub Time Machine was finally on the movie channel. It was something I had wanted to see before, so I started to watch it. I didn’t get to far into it before I changed my mind and stopped watching it.

You’ve been given some great suggestions. Just kindly let your brother know, it’s not a movie of interest to you as others have said. From what you’ve said you’ve no interest in seeing it, so it wouldn’t be a lie of any sort. Why spend our money on something that we have no interest in? If your brothers paying, perhaps suggest another movie? But if its on your buck, and you really don’t want to go, step back. Your brother will have to unfortunately take it as he will. (Brothers can sometimes be so silly )

Just out of curiosity, I looked at a plot summary for this movie, and although there is some immorality in it, such as cocaine use and strip clubs, I don’t think that I personally would be tempted into sin by seeing it. This is probably because I’m totally blind, and it would appear that most of the immorality would be in the visual relm, unless there’s some blasphemy in it or something, or something against God or the Catholic Church.

You do not owe your brother any explanation why don’t want to see this movie. I would tell him that judging from the commercials on TV it is probably the stupidest movie to come out this summer and I have 101 better uses for my ticket money.

This is what Jack says about the movie. It is said to be “morally offensive, and it had so many bad things in it. I don’t want to see it”
He says it has many bad things in it and he does’t want to see it anyway; to still go ahead and watch those “bad things”, isn’t that courting trouble?
Watching a movie that is explicit for instance, may prompt one to sin , say in his thoughts, if not in his actions, same way as reading certain books.
