Do you mean “safe” period as the time within the woman’s cycle when she is not ovulating, and therefore cannot physically conceive a human?
Yes, that’s what the poster meant.
Why do you consider it not okay to engage in sexual intercourse during a woman’s infertile period? Do you consider this sinful?
Where do you get that? That is when the couple would have sexual intercourse so that it is more likely that they would not become pregnant, but the possibility is still there if God wills it.
I wonder if you see any difference between killing Grandma now to get your inheritance versus waiiiiting until Grandma’s dead to get your inheritance. The end result’s the same, right?
NO, in the first one, Grandma’s dead and you’re a murderer, in the second one, Grandma’s dead, but you did NOTHING to make it so.
And eating food at the right time to maintain your weight is just as bad as taking a diet pill to prevent absorption of the food, right?
Okay, that one doesn’t make any sense???

Okay, I’ve posted this before elsewhere, but here we go again.

There’s a huge difference between contraception and NFP.

God designed our biology. In His design, men are fertile all the time and women are fertile only part of the time.

NFP works within God’s design. It does absolutely nothing to change our biology and our fertile times from the way God designed them.

Contraception, however, seeks to thwart God’s design.

Using contraception tells God He made a mistake in His design, a mistake we will correct for Him. We will change His design to *our *design by adding a condom, a pill, an IUD, or whatever.

Contraception essentially slaps God in the face by telling Him His design is not good enough.

That’s an excellent, concise summary! Thanks for that! I always get frustrated when people make this claim, as the difference seems so obvious to me.

So if A and B don’t want to get pregnant but want to have sex 4 times a month, and use a condom once a week its a sin.

And if C and D don’t want to get pregnant but want to have sex 4 times a month and have sex 4 times in a 10 day “safe” period, that’s okay.
People equate contraception with NFP on the basis that the ENDS are the same – they can both prevent pregnancy. However, the difference is in the MEANS! Working hard can make you wealthy; robbing a bank can make you wealthy. Work is the same as stealing!

It seems that people on the “anti-NFP”(see footnote) side always phrase it “NFP is just like contraception” and never “contraception is just like NFP. So let’s turn it around and start with NFP and THEN look at contraception.

The techniques of NFP are a means to obtain knowledge about the state of a woman’s fertility at a given moment in time. The couple can use this knowledge to aid in the decision of whether or not to engage in intercourse at a given moment. That’s it. Period.

Lemme say it again: “NFP is a means to gain knowledge that can affect the decision to have or not have intercourse at a given moment.”

NFP does not alter any individual actual act of intercourse in any way. NFP does not alter the normal, human reproductive system in any way.

Contraception, on the other hand, interferes with either the normal function of the human reproductive system or the marital act itself, or both.

As you can see, contraception is not the same as NFP. Contraception distorts each and every occasion of intercourse. NFP simply influences whether or not a particular occasion of intercourse happens at all.

Footnote: By “anti-NFP” I mean both extremes - people who are opposed to NFP because they are also opposed to contraception as well as people who are in favor of contraception and think NFP is hypocritical. They both seem to make the same arguments.

P.S. I am not an NFP Nazi. However, we have used it before when we deemed it prudent, in accordance with the Church’s teaching.

I love that! Perfect execution of Logic.

Sorry, I’ll try not to do that again 🙂

P.P.S. Re: the website quoted by the OP - A friend one asked me to look at it and see what I though about it. The first page I looked at was this one:
johnthebaptist.us/sbw/letters/rjmi%20catholic%20letters/lr10_inquiry.htm

Where I read “If you are already staying home and not attending Mass, that is a good first step.”
That’s all you need to know about that site.
:bigyikes: I felt a sense of Martin Luther Deja vu…

Truly scary stuff! How many times can you use the word “abjuration” in one paragraph?

I poked around other parts of the site and the guy also believes the Holocaust never happened and that the earth is the center of the universe. I definitely wouldn’t give credence to anything he says.
