My friend has been going through hard times within the past year and a half that have depressed her. She has always believed in God but has never had a great relationship with Him. This past weekend we got into a long conversation about things and I know that the only way she’s going to be happy again is if she turns to God. She wants to be closer to God, but she doesn’t know where to begin.

She’s turning to me for help and, since my parents always kept God in my life, I don’t know what exactly to tell her to do. I told her to start going to church, reading the Bible, and praying the Rosary.

First, I ask you all to pray for her and her family. Second, I ask for your advice. Any sites or books I should recommend? I’d love to hear any words of advice you could offer as well.

She feels like her life is at rock bottom. God is the only way she’ll be lifted out of this, so any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.

Will pray.

Minister to her. Listen to her. Even if it’s inconvenient and she calls at 4AM. Before you can tell her what she ‘needs’ to do regarding God, hear her to the best of your abilities.

Thanks.

I’ll do my best. It’s a messy situation though, so she’s not always eager to talk about things.

I can relate to your friend! Thanks for being there for her. ❤️

Have you offered to pray the rosary with her? Just a thought.

Will keep you guys in prayers. Keep us updated!!!

Is there anything I can pass along to her that helped you get your faith started? I’m guessing it was a number of things, but I feel I should ask just in case.

Maybe you can schedule to meet with a local priest. Especially if you have a open and very warm one at your parish. That we she can ask the good questions. There are also some very good sites to check out wordonfire.org which is by Father Robert Barron creator of the evangelizing series that really got me “Catholicism” which I also recommend here is a youtube clip on it youtu.be/yXz7CiIovJ8 .

As others have said, just listen and be there for your friend. The enemy uses our mind as his playground so be there like you already have been…I will lift you all up in prayer.:gopray2:

You said she dosen’t know where to begin to get closer to God. Many people here on
CAF have had that happen to them very suddenly both Catholic and Protestant. A moment when they gave their heart to God in pain and all at once something inside changed in them at that moment and they knew it. And things then did begin to change for them. There have been a number of testimonies to that. God looks at the heart. Someone speaking from the heart He always hears. He does not shove us away but has great mercy on us. She certainly sounds like she qualifies for God’s special help. Ask her to open up to Him without bias or holding back and ask his mercy and understanding.

I would recommend to ask the special protection and aid from Mary. Get the miraculous
medal, have it blessed, then have her wear it. Mary herself requested that everyone
wear one and they would be given great graces for those who trusted her.
In her own words she promised great graces.

You are a good friend and that is what she needs, that someone cares enough.
I’m sure this means so much to her.

I will pray for both of you.

Thank you all for the prayers and suggestions. I know they’re going to help.

I will be praying for her to find solace in God. 🙂
God bless you, you sound like a really good friend.

I’m not sure what to say. Just being a good friend and showing her a loving example of Christianity is excellent (and much-needed these days!). Being there for support and for her questions.

🙂

Keep us updated!!!
She seems to have the right mindset. She knows starting a relationship with God isn’t going to solve all of her problems. She just wants to trust Him more and have a sense of peace in her life. I’m really hoping that she goes to church this Sunday. I don’t think she has ever consistently gone to church, so if she starts doing that it’d be great.
