I know this isn’t the place I should be posting this type of request, but I figured I could reach a lot of Catholics this way - hopefully someone who lives in the southern part of Florida.

It’s a long storm but the bottom line is that I’m looking for my brother to inform him that our dad is in the hospital with cancer and pneumonia. We haven’t heard from him in over ten years.

He goes by “Francis of the Heart of Mary” and is living out a mendicant life style where he is denying himself of all pleasures - including having contact with his family.

His appearance is that of a Franciscan monk - green robe with a hood, rope belt with a rosary hanging from it, most likely a long beard and hair cut in the style of a monk. He doesn’t have a home and lives on the streets last I knew. He begs for food and regularly attends daily mass. If you see him today, tell him happy birthday - he turns 43 today.

Last I knew (about six months ago) he was living in Jacksonville Florida and attended St Matthew’s church fairly regularly. I spoke with Father Luke there and last he saw him was about six months ago and someone told him Francis was heading to south Florida.

If anyone has seen him or knows where he is please let me know. I would simply like to inform him of his father’s poor health (probably via mail).

Thanks for any help you can provide. My email address is schnur777@hotmail.com

There are various sources on the web that can allow you to look for people. Also, there are nation phone directories like Verizon SuperPages that you can do a name search on. It it has been six months and he has a phone, he will probably be in the listings.

Maybe you could look online to find the web sites of different diocese in southern Florida. On their web page they may have emails for different parishes. If your brother attends daily Mass, and if he is noticeable like it sounds he may be, then if you email them they may be able to tell you if they have seen him recently.

You can also call a few if they don’t have emails.

Good Luck!

BTW, the three southernmost ones are the Diocese of Miami, the Diocese of Venice, and the Diocese of Palm Beach. Next are the Diocese St. Petersburg and the Diocese Orlando.

Here are the links I found to their sites (I’m not sure about the Miami one, but I think it is right)

Miami
Venice
Palm Beach

St. Petersburg
Orlando

Steve:

You are a good brother and a good son. I pray that God blesses your attempts to find your brother. And for your father as well.

Please keep us posted.

Thanks for everyone’s suggestions and prayers. I’ve been actively emailing various groups that people suggested and hoping something turns up.

If anyone has any other suggestions, I’m willing to try anything at this point. My dad could go any day now.

thanks and God Bless you all for your prayers and suggestions.

Just trying to keep this updated so more people see it.

Any thoughts about an email chain?

Did you try the State Police?

I suppose the state police is a good idea. I’m sure they would see him because he walks everywhere he goes.

thanks for the idea.

Any other ideas are greatly appreciated. I thought of an email chain, but most people would probably consider it a hoax and delete it.

If he lives on the streets and is headed south, we’re probably talking foot traffic. Therefore, I would look in Orlando, St. Petersberg, Largo, Kissimmee, Tampa, etc.

dioceseofstpete.org/

Soup kitchens and homeless shelters would be a good place to look. Pasco County has some grant money toward this, and has some shelters. God be with you all at this time.

I’m still looking
Were the State Police even willing to put out an APB – or is an act of charity like this outside their scope? Have you tried the “help me” feature of local TV stations?

I found someone who lives in Jacksonville and attends a church that my brother was seen at several months. She’s going to check with the priest to see if he knows anything.

Keep praying! And thanks for everyone’s suggestions and prayers - they mean a lot during this difficult time.
