I know it’s been posted before, but what translation would one recommend to a freshman college student looking to buy a better Bible?
I currently have the New American Bible and the NSRV (iirc). Yeah, not the best.
But, keep in mind, I’m looking at keeping it UNDER $50 (unless someone convinces me to get something that costs a bit more, but is much better). I’m not talking about the acquisition of the Navarre Bible ($400? not that much cash right now!
).
The Bible would be used for my personal reading, daily prayers (I will begin doing a form of the Spiritual Exercises on campus), daily reflection, and for Bible study with the Catholic group on campus. Plus, it’ll probably sit on my desk looking good.
I have heard the Douay-Rheims version is good, but so is the RSV-CE edition by Ignatius Press.
Feel free to give your opinion, and thank you very much!
