**MARY DID NOT GIVE BIRTH TO GOD!!!

Please read Hebrews 10:5: “…Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me.”

and

Note that the body of Jesus was prepared by God. Read Matthew 1:18: “she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.”

Mary only gave birth to the humanity of Jesus. The only thing Jesus got from Mary was a physical body. Every Human Being has received a sinful nature from their parents with one exception: Jesus was not human, in the sense that we know and understand our own humanity. He was divine God in a physical body. This is what Mary gave birth to. See Phil. 2:5-11.

The divine nauture of Jesus existed before eternity, and this cannot be said of Mary. Therefore, Mary IS NOT THE MOTHER OF GOD!!!
**

Remember Jesus is both divine (spirit) and human, but not JUST human, he is God incarnate. The two natures aren’t completely and utterly separable, even if one preexisted and postexists the other.

So in some sense it is accurate to call Mary the ‘mother of God’.

I thought this old heresy was long dead. Oh well. Mary is the mother of a person, Jesus, not a nature. A person is the answer to the question, “who?”, and a nature is the answer the question, “what?”.

If motherhood meant merely the origin of natures, then my mom wouldn’t be the mother of me, since she did not directly create my soul… God did. Part of human natures include a human soul.

You might want to ask them in what way is Jesus “not human”. They need to be specific.

Hello,

To put it in simple logical form,
- Jesus is God
- Mary is the Mother of Jesus
- Mary is therefore the Mother of God

This article of faith was defined in 431 A.D. at the Council of Ephesus.

“the holy virgin, mother of God, not as though the nature of the Word or his godhead received the origin of their being from the holy virgin, but because there was born from her his holy body rationally ensouled, with which the Word was hypostatically united and is said to have been begotten in the flesh.” (Second letter of Cyril to Nestorius)

“Therefore, because the holy virgin bore in the flesh God who was united hypostatically with the flesh, for that reason we call her mother of God, not as though the nature of the Word had the beginning of its existence from the flesh (for “the Word was in the beginning and the Word was God and the Word was with God”, and he made the ages and is coeternal with the Father and craftsman of all things), but because, as we have said, he united to himself hypostatically the human and underwent a birth according to the flesh from her womb.” (Third letter of Cyril to Nestorius)

Hope this helps.

Hi! 👋

Women don’t give birth to natures, they give birth to persons. Jesus was a divine person. His divinity and humanity are inseparable, sort of like your body and soul are inseparable. You can’t pull out your soul and say “see here? This is my soul, which is separate from my body”. It’s the unity of the body and soul that makes one a human person. And it’s the unity of humanity and divinity that made Jesus who he was, the Son of God AND the son of man at the same time.

The term “Mother of God” was not given to Mary as an indication of who SHE was but rather of who JESUS was. In the 4th century a heresy called Arianism arose which denied the divinity of Christ. The title “Mother of God” was given to Mary to dispute the heresy which claimed that Jesus was not a divine person.

In Christ,
Nancy 🙂

That’s a heresy called Nestorianism (I think) which attemtped to seperate the human Jesus from the Divine Jesus, and Arianism which attempted to deny Jesus was divine altogether, if Jesus was not both fully human and fully divine from conception. But instead had two distinct entities one human and one divine, then what died on the Cross was simply ‘the human Jesus’, and that wouldn’t attone for cursing after you stub your toe. Jesus is both fully human and fully divine not two distinct Jesus one human and one divine. Because that would mean the divine Jesus was spared any pain and death, and only the human Jesus suffered. If that would be the case, there is no attonement.

Hence why we call Mary ‘Theotokos’, God-Bearer…

Google Nestorianism and Arianism, and do some reading, these were heresies in the 5th or 6th century. And no reformer would want to revisit these ideas, I think your theology is just reviving long dead heresies without even realizing it.

To put it in simple logical form,

It’s all so simple as above. I just do not understand why people jump through hoops and come up with ridiculous ideas and equations to say that she is not the mother of God?! I repeat JMJ’s comment:

To put it in simple logical form,
  • Jesus is God
  • Mary is the Mother of Jesus
  • Mary is therefore the Mother of God

This is the Nestorian heresy. It denies the hypostatic union of two natures (fully divine and fully human) in one person (Christ). Christ was not two natures in two persons, nor one nature in two persons. He became one person with two natures when he was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. Mary is his human mother. Mary is the mother of Jesus. Jesus is God. Mary is the mother of God.

Luke 1:43 “And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?”

ask them about “seed of woman” what does it mean?

Genesis 3:15
And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Revelation 12:17
And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Galatians 4:4
But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law,

Aaron I.:
Luke 1:43 “And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?”
Why must you confuse the issue with rock solid biblical truth? 👍

All any of us got from our mothers is a physical body. We get our soul, our Eternal Identity, from God. So our mothers aren’t really our mothers either.

The Gospel of Luke, 1

1:43 And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
