I had a discussion today about Vatican II today with some friends and I was suprised to hear a lot of negative and angry remarks.

I have always belived that the Pope and Councils of the Church were infallable. Am I wrong???

Of course the Pope and Church Councils are always infallible when teaching on faith and morals through the Ordinary or Extraordinary magisterium.

Ecumenical Councils are guaranteed the passive protection of the Holy Spirit. They cannot teach error. They can be ambiguous, easy to exploit, and in general harmful to the wellfare of the Church, however.
