I would like everyone’s (name removed by moderator)ut as to what I should do about the rampant stashes of pornography where I work. I work to keep pure for my wife and for God. It is hard when stashes of nudie magazines are all over at work. I have even been presented with copies of pages as presents. I have requested not to receive these but I still run into the stashes and it is openly viewed in my presence near the area I am working in.

I am considering going to the department manager or HR but if it is found out that I am the tattle tale my work will become hard to perform as none of these guys will work with me well and I will be harrassed (prior experience from the gift).

Should I take and destroy them, talk to HR asking for anonymity or work with my department manager.

Please pray for me,

Matt

if this stuff is kept where the women can see it, or used in suggestive ways, joking, comments, it can be a liability for the company, because somebody could legitimately charge sexual harrasment. If you are in anykind of supervisory capacity and allow this to remain, you could be disciplined or fined, or worse. Report it to HRD as a possible civil rights violation.

I’m not sure you have to be a woman… when your co-workers don’t know how to take “no” for an answer, that alone may qualify what you’re experiencing as a hostile work environment. If you are at all concerned that “whistle-blowing” might ruin your job further, you may want to consult an employment attorney as to what the laws in your area are. I think they will probably advise you to keep track of names, dates, and details as best as you can. You might be much more comfortable with your choice when you really know where you stand.

In theory a woman could see it but it is unlikely due to the fact that they are mainly in the front office.
I am not in a supervisory capacity but just filling in with these guys until i can finish up some of my special projects that are in a holding pattern.
Also, why can’t I consider this sexual harrasment? I believe I definitely can. I have stated it is unwanted to the users and it is still around.

Wow, I am absolutely appalled that pornography could be in the workplace at all - especially that out in the open. I’ve heard stories of people using computers at work to look at that stuff, but having it out in the open? And giving it as gifts? Wow. At the very least, isn’t that detracting from the productivity most Americans are adamant about at work? Besides that, the fact that you find it offensive and have asked it not to be there should be reason enough for its removal. This could definitely be construed as sexual harassment and should be reported to HR. I will keep you in my prayers. Best wishes and God bless!
