Happy Easter! I’ve heard on Catholic Radio before about the manipulation of history [even Catholic history] by some authors and publishers. I happened to be one of the victims when I purchased a Catholic history book at Barnes and Noble, only to quickly discover that the author was Anti Catholic. Does anyone have recommendations, especially regarding publishing companies that only tell the truth?

Thank you. God bless.
Kyle

My recommendation is to find books published by Catholic publishing houses, rather than secular publishers. Here is a link to a guide to trustworthy Catholic publishers (yes, even with Catholic publishers one has to be careful that they are not only Catholic in name.) Don’t be put off by the website mentioning Catholic kids, several of the publishers have books on apologetics, history, and other non-fiction topics.

One more thing… if you possibly can, try to get your books from small, independent Catholic bookstores or gift shops. They may be able to special order any book you want if it’s in their catalogs. Especially during this outbreak where several small stores are hurting from being shut down, it might be an act of charity to see if you can help them out with a purchase or two!
