“The soul sleeps between death and resurrection”

I know that there are several points to bring up to refute this claim. One I was thinking of is that those that died in friendship with God, were dewelling in Sheol or the place of the dead until Christs resurrection, this can be taken as a “sleep” between the death and the resurrection.

Second, because Christ has conquered death on the Cross, we now have the merits o eternal life, right after death, if we die in friendship of God.

Can you think of others, including fathers and scripture?

“The soul sleeps between death and resurrection”

…Can you think of others, including fathers and scripture?
Before the Redemption gained them access to Heaven, the souls of the just were conscious.
“The dead know not anything.” (Ecclesiastes) is taken out of context.

The parable of the rich man and the beggar.

Purgatory is indicated by the parable of the astronomically-in-debt servant who had a fellow servant imprisoned for a modest debt.

Saint Peter says that after He died, our Lord`s Spirit preached to the souls “in prison”: 1 Peter 3:19.

At our Lords Transfiguration, Hes seen speaking with Moses and Elijah.

Our Lords words to the repentant thief: "...this very day you will be with Me in Paradise.". In spite of the SDA claim that theres a grammatical error in the KJV and other Bibles.

Hebrews 12:1 says: “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses…”.
Chapter 11 goes through some of the Old Testament “saints” who had faith in God, starting with Abel. They now form a sort of cheer squad, urging us on.

There are too many biblical references to people who are physically dead and have gone to heaven, prayers from the saints, etc.

We are judged after death and then go to our destination. Humans either go to purgatory to be purified and sent to heaven, or they go to hell. We do not sleep between death and resurrection. This is a strange teaching, and even most Protestants I know disagree with it (they just don’t believe in purgatory).
(Eccl 12:5 NASB) Furthermore, men are afraid of a high place and of terrors on the road; the almond tree blossoms, the grasshopper drags himself along, and the caperberry is ineffective. For man goes to his eternal home while mourners go about in the street.
(Eccl 12:6 NASB) Remember Him before the silver cord is broken and the golden bowl is crushed, the pitcher by the well is shattered and the wheel at the cistern is crushed;
(Eccl 12:7 NASB) then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it.
(Gen 35:18 NASB) And it came about as her **soul was departing **(for she died), that she named him Ben-oni; but his father called him Benjamin.
(Gen 35:19 NASB) So Rachel died and was buried on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem).
(Mat 22:29 NASB) But Jesus answered and said to them, "You are mistaken, not understanding the Scriptures, or the power of God.
(Mat 22:30 NASB) "For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.
(Mat 22:31 NASB) “But regarding the resurrection of the dead, have you not read that which was spoken to you by God, saying,
(Mat 22:32 NASB) ‘I AM THE GOD OF ABRAHAM, AND THE GOD OF ISAAC, AND THE GOD OF JACOB’? He is not the God of the dead but of the living.”
(Mat 22:33 NASB) And when the multitudes heard this, they were astonished at His teaching.
(John 11:25 NASB) Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me shall live even if he dies,
(John 11:26 NASB) and everyone who lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?”
(Mat 10:28 NASB) "And do not fear those who kill the body, but are unable to kill the soul;but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
(1 Th 4:13 NASB) But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve, as do the rest who have no hope.
(1 Th 4:14 NASB) For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus.
(1 Th 4:15 NASB) For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, and remain until the coming of the Lord, shall not precede those who have fallen asleep.

Errata
Sorry: not a grammatical error, but a punctuation error.
Instead of “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.”, the SDAs say it should be: “Truly, I say to you today, you will be with me in Paradise.” Luke 23:43 RSV. They say the comma is in the wrong place!

In their own translation, the JWs just put the comma where the SDAs say it should have been put.

The error may be more in our understanding of heaven. If in heaven there is no time, then we can die at different times but arrive simultaneously.

We could be stolen away as if by a thief in the night within time, yet gathered together in the heavens simultaneously with all the saints of old. In this case, when Abel died, he met Christ in glory with us at his side.

How do you say this without an Eisensteinian view of time and space? For us, in time, it would look like Abel ‘slept’ until the end of time to be joined with us. For Abel in eternity, it would just be a blink.

What is it like to go from time to timeless eternity? Maybe what Stephen saw?

If the rapture occurs at each of our deaths in this way, we don’t have to ignore any scripture, and each generation that reads the book is ‘this’ generation that will not pass away until all things are fulfilled.

Revelation 6:9
And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:

One can make the case that Jonah was dead when he was eaten by the sea monster, the words sheol or grave and the word Pit can very well mean that Jonah was dead.

Jonah 2
Jonah’s Prayer
1 From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the LORD his God. 2 He said:
"In my distress I called to the LORD,
and he answered me.
From the depths of the grave [a] I called for help,
and you listened to my cry.
3 **You hurled me into the deep,
into the very heart of the seas,
and the currents swirled about me;
all your waves and breakers
swept over me. **

4 I said, ‘I have been banished
from your sight;
yet I will look again
toward your holy temple.’

5 The engulfing waters threatened me, **
the deep surrounded me;
seaweed was wrapped around my head.

6 To the roots of the mountains I sank down;
the earth beneath barred me in forever.
**But you brought my life up from the pit, ** {an Ressurrection???}
O LORD my God.

7 "When my life was ebbing away,
I remembered you, LORD,
and my prayer rose to you,
to your holy temple.

8 "Those who cling to worthless idols
forfeit the grace that could be theirs.

9 But I, with a song of thanksgiving,
will sacrifice to you.
What I have vowed I will make good.
Salvation comes from the LORD."

10 And the LORD commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.

Someone who is asleep can not greet someone else, but yet in Isaiah that is exactly what is happening,

Isaiah 14:9-11 (New International Version)

9 The grave [a] below is all astir
to meet you at your coming;
it rouses the **spirits of the departed **to greet you—
all those who were leaders in the world;
it makes them rise from their thrones—
all those who were kings over the nations.

10 They will all respond,
they will say to you,
“You also have become weak, as we are;
you have become like us.”

11 All your pomp has been brought down to the **grave, **
along with the noise of your harps;
maggots are spread out beneath you
and worms cover you.

1 Samuel 28
Saul and the Witch of Endor
1 In those days the Philistines gathered their forces to fight against Israel. Achish said to David, “You must understand that you and your men will accompany me in the army.”
2 David said, “Then you will see for yourself what your servant can do.”
Achish replied, “Very well, I will make you my bodyguard for life.”

3 **Now Samuel was dead, **and all Israel had mourned for him and buried him in his own town of Ramah. Saul had expelled the mediums and spiritists from the land.

4 The Philistines assembled and came and set up camp at Shunem, while Saul gathered all the Israelites and set up camp at Gilboa. 5 When Saul saw the Philistine army, he was afraid; terror filled his heart. 6 He inquired of the LORD, but the LORD did not answer him by dreams or Urim or prophets. 7 Saul then said to his attendants, “Find me a woman who is a medium, so I may go and inquire of her.”
“There is one in Endor,” they said.

8 So Saul disguised himself, putting on other clothes, and at night he and two men went to the woman. “Consult a spirit for me,” he said, “and bring up for me the one I name.”

9 But the woman said to him, “Surely you know what Saul has done. He has cut off the mediums and spiritists from the land. Why have you set a trap for my life to bring about my death?”

10 Saul swore to her by the LORD, “As surely as the LORD lives, you will not be punished for this.”

11 Then the woman asked, “Whom shall I bring up for you?”
** “Bring up Samuel,” **he said.

12 When the woman saw Samuel, she cried out at the top of her voice and said to Saul, “Why have you deceived me? You are Saul!”

13 The king said to her, “Don’t be afraid. What do you see?”
**The woman said, “I see a spirit [a] coming up out of the ground.” **

14 “What does he look like?” he asked.
**“An old man wearing a robe is coming up,” **she said.
Then Saul knew it was Samuel, and he bowed down and prostrated himself with his face to the ground.

**15 Samuel said to Saul, “Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?” **

God was not happy with Saul for doing this above,

1 Chronicles 10:13
So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to enquire of it;

But, the point is Samuel was awake and aware,**
