Perhaps there is a bit of confusion here. Regarding the purpose of Catholic Theology?
No confusion here.
People look to Catholic Theology for answers about God

and human beings.
Some answers to questions about about human beings (e.g., questions about anatomy, physiology, genetics) are not theological in nature.
Why the comment about dictating to genetic science? Genetic science concerns biological anatomies which eventually decompose.
A theology that declares the human species arose through the marital embrace of a single breeding pair makes that claim in contradiction of all available scientific evidence, particularly that offered by genetic science.

Of course, no Catholic is required to accept any article of modern science – such as the motion or antiquity of the earth – that is not the point of religious faith. But many Catholics do accept modern science, and engage in rich, energetic, and sustained dialogue with it.

Catholic Theology does teach that there are two sole parents of the human species.

Currently, genetic or any of the sciences cannot absolutely rule out the possibility of two founders of the human species. Using selective data based on relatively small samples considering the size of the current population, some researchers have arrived at some particular conclusions regarding some points of genetics which may have occurred millions of years going backwards. For the most part, research conclusions do pertain to a few of the 20,000 to 25,000 human genes which is appropriate.

But the evidence itself, the methods and materials, do not warrant an extrapolation to a universal conclusion. Thus, somewhere in the past, Adam and Eve did exist. Apparently, there is some benefit for individuals to oppose the reality of Adam and Eve. 🤷

Can someone please help me and clarify a statement that our Deacon said last night at our RCIA class. I thought that the Adam and Eve story was real, that it actually happened. But our Deacon stated that the Adam and Eve story was a story that was just made up to explain our fallen nature. Can some please explain of the Catolic church understand Adam and Eve?
Blkmustang,

Too often I get hung up on the reality of Adam and Eve. Now I am wondering how the Deacon explained our wounded human nature. Perhaps the whole issue needs to be explored in order to understand why two founders. Would you like to continue to discuss Adam further?
