I am not sure if this is the correct place to post this…

I have someone who comes from a protestand/evangelical background who is turning to Catholicism.

I have been tasked with introducing him to all aspects of the Liturgy. I need to explain to him all about the Divine Office. This is quite a big task for anyone who is not really sure what Morning Prayer and Vespers mean!

Can anyone give me ideas how to approach this?

Does anyone know of any online resources which might help me?

I will be having weekly, one hour conferences with him.

Thank you for your help-

Why do you need to explain Liturgy of the Hours to this person right now?

I suggest you explain the Mass. Later, explain LOTH.

I suggest that the person be directed to the parish pastor and that they consider RCIA.

If you are doing the catechesis for RCIA, your parish pastor or diocesan office of catechesis can give you information on materials.

I suggest ACM materials, including the leader and participant guide and handouts.

I applaud your willingness to help a seeker into Catholicism. I respectfully suggest you start with the basics almost like the old Baltimore Cathechism. There is plenty of time later to introduce the suggestions you mentioned. Starting at the beginning seems a good way to go to me. God bless you in your work.

ACM is excellent.
And I’d also like to know who asked you to do this?
Is this some sort of make-shift RCIA?

I suggest ACM materials, including the leader and participant guide and handouts.

Even though the title is THE MASS EXPLAINED FOR KIDS, it’s an excellent resource for anyone who is trying to learn about the Mass. It doesn’t have any kiddie illustrations so it would be most appropriate for an adult to carry with him/her. Color coded explanations are given for each part of the Mass. It’s published by Pauline Books and is only a couple of dollars.

This looks like an excellent resource. Certainly a very reasonable price. Thanks for the recommendation.

Mary.

The question of the original poster is about the Liturgy of the Hours…not the Mass.

Simply Google “Liturgy of the Hours” and scan down until you get to the Wikipedia citation (when I did, it was the fourth one down). You will need to seriously reduce the amount of information as it has more than your person will need. But it does go into origins, and then further down, historical development.

Again, you will find a “data dump” of more than you need, but I would presume you can shorten it down very significantly. Be careful about the “all about”; if you can’t get it down to under a 5 minute presentation, you are telling too many details to someone who needs a basic outline.
