This tpoic is constantly coming up, and always so contentiously. The fact is the Church has NEVER been in the business of teaching sexual technique, has NEVER (and will never) pronounce on this. All the so-called sources are simply opinions, even what PJPII has written (and he had little to say on this).

Here is what we do know:

You may not spill the seed, and that means no contraception and to finish vaginally. You may not commit adultery, meaning that sex is for marriage, and that being a man and a women, by the way.

Did I leave anything out?

There is not that much else on the subject that rises to the level of authentic magisterial teaching on this. People will have to accept the fact that they need to figure this out for themselves, and try their best to keep their moral compass despite emotions, passions (these can be VERY powerful), and other factors, and simply to try their best to be loving and giving. All marriages are different, and in many ways. It is almost universally a fact that men seem to be pleased by this though, and it turns into a tug of war for so many people, who are always trying to look up arguments that agree with them, and it probably is just because they are willful and want to have something to hold over the other one, and in the end you have to figure out how you can please one another, and whether you have any room for fliexibility, and if you do, what is the cost of it, and is it worth it.

The source I offered is orthodox and entirely true to the teachings of Catholic sexual morality.

This is why we have reliable sources for the exact specifics and “how do’s” of married sexual intimacy for those who need assistance “figuring it out” what is morally licit. Not everyone does as well with “this is what we know, now go figure it out for yourselves”.

Is it? I know that he is a favored moral theologian in this area but saying that he is true to the teaching of the Church I have a hard time with. You see in this forum we have discussed that the Church has not been really definitive on this matter of oral sex in Church teaching. So my question for you would be, if he is in line with Church teachings on oral sex - then which ones? Can you quote them or cite them - whatever you choose would be fine.

Actually, I do not feel a need to shoulder the burden of proof and to clarify “which ones”. If this is really something that you continue to feel ambiguous about, then I suggest that you invest the $10 or so to purchase the book for your own source research. 🙂

1781 Conscience enables one to assume responsibility for the acts performed. (CCC)

1783 Conscience must be informed and moral judgment enlightened. A well-formed conscience is upright and truthful. It formulates its judgments according to reason, in conformity with the true good willed by the wisdom of the Creator. The education of conscience is indispensable for human beings who are subjected to negative influences and tempted by sin to prefer their own judgment and to reject authoritative teachings. (CCC)

1787 Man is sometimes confronted by situations that make moral judgments less assured and decision difficult. But he must always seriously seek what is right and good and discern the will of God expressed in divine law. (CCC)

Thanks. I already own a few Catechisms and I can also use the Vatican site if I get lazy. I think you don’t feel a need to shoulder the burden of proof and to clarify “which ones” because you probably don’t know. This has been my plea throughout this thread; that if you or anyone believes that Christopher West is inline with Church on everything, including oral sex, then I want to see where he is getting this Church teaching from. This means that the teaching should be magisterial in nature, like some Papal document or from a Papal commission or from some Council not some highly favored modern theologian who is not part of the Magisterium. While conscience plays into this indirectly if your’s or others’ consciences are ill-formed toward the matter, then sure. Yet that is not my place to judge but I do have a right to express my concern in the matter, and yes … the burden of there being not much proof or clarification that oral sex is an ok thing for married couples to partake in.

For the basis of my argument – please read the thread from the beginning.

I would like to help out here by saying that oral sex and oral stimulation are two different things. Oral sex is forbidden by the Catholic Church oral stimulation is not. There is a Franciscan Theologen who has done an audio on this subject and he says the male organ is to go in the vagina only. I forget his name. I think he is in South Dakota. He is very clear on the teachings of the church on this subject.
