My daughter is a junior in college and a mixed martial arts instructor in the DFW area. She is beautiful, superfit, passionate about being Catholic, and extremely involved in church, but can’t seem to find anyone her own age engaged in similar activities. Do any of you fellow Catholic brethren of mine out there know of any groups in the DFW area that might have others her age involved in ministries? It’s a bit discouraging for her and us at times because I know she is interested in mingling with peers her own age (or at least close to it) that are alike and share a common interest for the faith, but it seems so few people her age are actively involved in church. Thanks for any ideas or information you are willing to share, and God Bless.

Would there be a Newman center on her campus or in the DFW area? Our Newman center has many activities for the college students.

Not at her current campus because she is going to a remote campus that is nearby rather than the main university campus.

I looked one up as soon as I saw your reply (thanks by the way I really do appreciate the advice) and found one nearby at another local university. Do you think they would allow a student from another 4 year university to attend their services there? (I am thinking of calling there in the morning, and the only reason my daughter didn’t go to that university is she got a better scholarship at the other where she attends now).

Parishes, specifically Newman Centers.

That would be great, I know it would really lift her spirits, thanks!

I am not sure, but I would think they would welcome any Catholic student.
The priest at our Newman center has speakers one night a week and various restaurants
cater dinner for the students before the speaker talks. There is usually an activity every
night and they have retreats and go on trips. Of course, there are weekday and Sunday
Masses, too and confession. Hope she will give it a try.

I can’t imagine any Newman Center turning someone away because they go to a different college. The Newman Center where I went to undergrad pulled people from the University, the local community college, townies who weren’t really in either, and those who graduated and hadn’t moved away yet (to say nothing of faculty and staff).

^^^^ This. Our Newman CEnter regularly gets non-Catholic visitors. No one asks to see an ID card.
All are welcome.

Thanks everyone, I called one of the Newman centers at a nearby university and they said they would be happy to have her join them, she is going to go there next week and attend a bible study. I really appreciate all the advice, have a blessed week!

Okay. Thanks for the update. I pray she will find fellowship there and continue to grow in
her faith!

When I came into the Church, our parish combined with the Newman Center for the Instruction Classes. We were welcome to attend Mass, events, etc - even us old folks 😉
