I finally met the husband in the couple and said exactly this. He was thankful about the prayers and the reaching and expressed his own disappointment at this scandal.

He added, however, that his wife is asking a lot of questions and is getting quite annoyed at the stonewalling that she’s finding, unfortunately. One thing he’s sure of: he’ll terminate their children’s involvement with RC for the time being.

All in all, I’m relieved to see them with a healthy, questioning attitude towards RC and an unabashed allegiance to Jesus and to His Church.

:blessyou:

PS: may you find peace in Jesus and may He lift up your heavy heart at this ordeal.
Thank you for sharing and starting this discussion. Your comments to your friends seemed very appropriate. I learned from your example and may make similar comments to some of my RC friends, should the occassion arise for me to say anything.

Your friends sound like devoted Catholic parents. Given the nature of some of the allegations made, its quite reasonable for parents to question if they should continue participation in RC children’s program. Not questioning seems, I don’t know, unwise? naive? Wanting to know more details isn’t always just about gossip as some people on this thread claim. Frankly, it’s rather uncharitable of others to assume the worst of those who question what went on and wonder about the possible impact that it may still have on the Catholic church today.

First off, we ADORE Christ, we follow Him. Every grace and “thing” he gives us, is to help each one of us, individually to follow him in order that we arrive at the ultimate goal: Heaven. The bible is thick enough with stories and examples to help us, all of mankind, but we are “thicker” than the bible, so he leaves us his Church and the sacraments. Within the church he allows many to try to inspire and guide us along the way. Our Awesome God does not need any of this. We do. Some need more help than others. We are all different. God in his infinite wisdom and mercy has made us this way.

Now this being said, everyone of us should remember that we are one church and not one apostolate, congregation or religious order is better than the other. If one has these thoughts then that religious group has lost its meaning and goal. We should all be reminded of Foundations. Ask yourselves about the foundation-key- to a religious group.

Please forgive me if I’m about to offend anyone, but the “flaws” of other founders of religious orders, such as St. Francis (who has been used as an example in other threads) did not include statutory rape (the girl who fathered his child was 15) and pedophilia. That to me is more than just a flaw. We are all sinners, however the founder of a religious community (order, congregation, etc…) is called to a higher standard.

Just as there is a ripple effect of good virtue, there also lies a destructive ripple effect of corruption, and disordered behavior.

If a boy or girls grows up in a family whereby all his/her life he has been emotionally, physically, or sexually abused, how would he know any better not to continue that learned behavior unless serious intervention occurs? If not this cycle will continue generation after generation with many getting hurt in the process.

I know I’m going to get responses of “what proof” etc…, My answer to that is this: take off the blinders and do some serious, open-minded research. Even the Vatican can make mistakes- it has in the past. This is not an issue of dogma or truths of the faith, so it can make mistakes.

If this issue does nothing to strengthen your faith in Christ or his Church, then. Let it go, keep living in the present moment, giving to God all the love you can give in your state in life for His greater Glory.

All For JMJ

Dear Jim, I hope that when your children go off to join LC or RC that you don’t mind them nearly, totally out of your life. So, you won’t mind if they are not allowed to attend a family wedding, as in one of their brother or sister’s wedding? Or will one quick letter a month to you suffice that says something like, “Pray for me, father, and I will pray for you.” And that letter will be read before it goes out by your child’s superior, and any letters coming in to you will be read by his or her superior. You will not be able to see them on Christmas or anyone’s birthdays. The life led is so restricted that it very similar to a cult, honestly. At least up to now. Maybe things will change or maybe the Orders will dissolve. Adore your leader, who is a Christ-like figure? It is more difficult to leave than if she were a Nun or he a Priest. Quicker to become one, fewer years in formation! A good thing? Taught they need to recruit, recuit in high schools and even younger, if possible. Get into board rooms and get that money to support our secret society where there is a totalitarian regime. Pope Benedict does NOT approve! Is that what you want? Think hard before you encourage your children to enter LC or RC. There are other orders.

I’m really sorry about the whole thing, but somehow not real surprised, sad as that is.
We met lovely priests through the Legionaries & had friends in Regnum Christi. Our boys went on Legionary retreats & had a great time. But overall there was something off -kilter we could sense.
I wish there was an alternative out there for families.Like a previous poster said, there’s “CCD Lite” at parishes but nothing like what the Legionaries offered.I miss having those experiences.
