How do I help keep my friends in high school from cursing and gossiping without trying to force them to change. I’ve tried living by example, but my friends just think that its ok for me not to sin, but they can. They don’t realize the reality of sin.

Since the St. Francis quote you have in your signature did not work in this case, I suggest you openly tell them that their cursing is offensive to you and ask them to stop. Repeat until either they stop cursing or you get fed up with their company and decide to leave that circle.

As for gossiping, don’t participate in ti. Stay silent. Don’t fall for bait. If asked why you have nothing to contribute you can explain why you don’t gossip.Just be honest.

And there is nothing wrong about wanting people to change when it comes to sin.

Stay away from the bad crowd. Cultivate new friends. The old friends will soon understand. They aren’t likely to change their bad habits, but you may slip into those habits if you stay with them. You could become desensitized.

Hey yeah im in highschool 10th grade too and i have the same issue but i learned you know you just cant change everyone. Sin has been so ingrained in this world. It is good to be a good example that is probably number 2 in what you have to do but first though Pray for them. Prayer will change them. We can do nothing, only through the Holy Spirit can they be changed. Next thing is to of coarse to live a good lifestyle as an example as you said and third thing is what ive been doing which is pick one of your friends which is the closest to Christthat you can see or feel to be close to Christ. Then talk to them about why cursing or whatever is bad. If their Christian show them Verses like “Remove from yourself a corrupt mouth, and let detracting lips be far from you” Proverbs 4:24 and Ephesians 4:29 “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.” yes also if their not Christian you have to go about it a differant way. But yes find one friend and bring them to Christ or closer to Christ then slowly work on them and help them then bring another one at a time its going to take a long time but its worth it.
But look at any sufferings you must endure as a path to Heaven for the only way to Salvation is the way of the Cross. Jesus says " Blessed are ye when they shall revile you, and persecute you, and speak all that is evil against you, untruly, for my sake: Be glad and rejoice, for your reward is very great in heaven. For so they persecuted the prophets that were before you" - Matthew 5:11-12

If you have any more questions ask and let me know how it goes.

Jeremias 1:6-7 “And I said: Ah, ah, ah, Lord God: behold, I cannot speak, for I am a child. And the Lord said to me: Say not: I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee: and whatsoever I shall command thee, thou shalt speak.”

A fantastic patron for you! Pier was a great influence on his circle of friends and continues from heaven to bring youth to God.

Persevere!!

I had a friend some time ago, who, when he heard someone cussing, would say,
“Just what do you have against Jesus? He is my friend.” He said they would quit.

I had an experience some time ago on the golf course. I played with a group from my
business, different ones each time. This one time, they would cuss about anything.
They did it when they missed the ball or hit the ball. About the 2nd hole it was getting
to me, and I was about to quit and walk in. But then I had the thought, what good would
that do? So I decided to say a prayer of reparation whenever they would do that.
About the 14th hole, I noticed they weren’t doing that any more. Maybe you could say
a prayer of reparation to Jesus and apoligize to him for them.
