How do I help someone who is experiencing relationship-related anxiety? I’m not asking for medical advice, but rather from a Catholic or perhaps psychological perspective. Are there prayers to lessen anxiety or saints to ask for intercession? Also, would something physically tangible, like prayer cards or blessed objects, help? Any advice would be welcome. Thank you in advance.

St. Dymphna is the go-to saint for mental illness of any sort. Anxiety would qualify under that umbrella, whatever its cause.

But I would also urge the person to see a psychiatrist if the anxiety is troubling. There are treatments and medications which can help.

Thank you for the responses so far.

I’m afraid if I suggested that, I will need to see a doctor for trauma.

That’s not anxiety, that’s violence! Oh my gosh. Why are you trying to help such a person?

It is very thoughtful of you to want to help someone with this problem. Novenas are good, and yes, scapulars, medals for specific saints, and prayer cards are all very helpful if they make you feel closer to God’s love and mercy. In addition to what others have already suggested, please start a thread on the prayer intention forum for this person. You can pray for them daily and many devoted prayer warriors will add their prayers. I know that it would really touch the heart of the person you are praying for to know that you are doing this and that others are joining in your prayers. Prayers are so powerful. May God bless you and this person in need of prayer.

It all depends what the relationship anxiety is all about. If it is a friend who is dating someone and they are scared to commit, maybe that is there gut telling them they are with the wrong person and should break up.

If it is someone who just has low self-esteem and can not believe someone else would be interested, help raise their esteem

More details are needed

I agree.

If someone if the anxiety is over a relationship that they simply dont want to commit too, that isn’t necessarily a problem. It could be their gut or their conscience telling them that this is not God’s will.

If it’s true anxiety, that is a different thing all together. There may be something in the relationship that is triggering their anxiety to rear it’s head.

It really depend on exactly what is going on.

" Anxiety in the heart of a man causes depression, but a good word makes it glad".
Proverbs 12:25

“In the multitude of my anxieties within me, your comforts delight my soul”.
Psalm 94:19
