This may have already been spoken about so I apologize if this is a repeat. I noticed this morning as I was studying scripture that in Luke 23:6 Jesus was sent to Herod to get a ‘conviction’,’ however, in Matthew 2:19 it says that Herod dies. Am I to assume that this was a different Herod then? Any (name removed by moderator)ut is greatly appreciated.

Yes it is referring to two separate Herods. They note that the first Herod hates Jesus and eventually dies in his hatred. The son has genuine curiosity for Jesus and wants to find him. Herod Antipas (the son) is the one who has John the Baptist beheaded because he promised to listen to the request of Herodias’ daughter no matter what the request was. He is noted to have been sad to kill JTB. Check Matthew 14:6-12 for this dialogue.

Eventually when Pilate judges Jesus, he sends Jesus to Herod (Herod the son who wanted to meet Jesus) and Herod sends him back to Pilate. Since they had this exchange we read this verse:

”That day Herod and Pilate became friends–before this they had been enemies.”
- Luke 23:12

There are so many great gems in the Gospels, I highly recommend reading straight through each and taking notes if you haven’t! It’s really great to refer back to

Just adding to the information others have already given.— Herod Antipas, who was one of the sons of Herod the Great and the ruler (tetrarch) of Galilee, is the same one who had John the Baptist held prisoner and later executed at his stepdaughter’s request (Mark 6:21-29).

And just to add to what has already been said: The Herod in Acts 12:21-23 is Herod Agrippa, the grandson of Herod the Great.
