Heroism

So where do you draw the line between heroism and downright immorality?

Now, I am NOT saying anything against heroism. But I’ve been seeing some very morally ambiguous situations in entertainment.

For example. I’ve seen a couple movies where the “heroes” kill themselves to save other people’s lives. Is it moral to commit suicide if it will save other people? I know it is heroic to endanger one’s life for somebody else, but to actually do the killing? Hmmmm…

Also, in the Dark Knight, Batman takes the blame for bunch of murders he didn’t do. The reason why is very complicated, but to simplify it, he did it to stop Gotham from being scandalized by its leaders. (sorry if you’re a Dark Knight fan. I’m a DK fan too, but I can’t help wondering.) Is it morally OK to lie for a good reason? And what defines a good reason?

There is not a good reason to do something immoral. You can’t justify an immoral action. Even if something is perceived to be a good outcome it’s inherently evil, because of the means to obtain it.

Satan will try to use favorable outcomes as a means to trick us into evil acts.
