Can you just hide from the virus by barricading yourself in your house?

There might be some issues with that, like that your body needs sunlight.

It is transmitted by close contact with people and certain animals (I think cats and dogs can carry the virus), so yes, if you eliminate all contacts, you will not get it.

I am not sure how practical that is. Sometimes you need to interact with other people. At those times, there are ways to minimize your risk.

By the way, it is against the CAF forum rules to give medical advice, so I can’t say more.

In theory, if everybody isolated into a separate room for two weeks with absolutely no contact with anybody else, then yes, the virus would have no way to spread and would die from surfaces.

Except…

There’s no way to do this.

Babies and little children can’t fend for themselves, or dependent persons in wheelchairs and bed bound, frail elders with cognitive decline who would literally forget to eat if not prompted, etc.

And then what if something bad but non-Covid19-related happened? Like your shelter caught fire, or your water supply drained away two days into the quarantine? Or you had a stroke or heart attack or asthma attack or any number of things that could happen?

But we are now in isolation for 8 weeks. How much longer do we need to isolate?
The quarantine was never meant to stop the virus in its tracks. It couldn’t. People were still out and about, only in lesser numbers.

I don’t know how much longer we need to isolate.
I don’t even know that we need to isolate in all fifty states and in every county.
My county was the hotspot of my state for the first few weeks. It seemed sensible to shut the schools and visiting hours to the nursing homes.
And yet, I can tell you that a lot of us Health Care Professionals wondered among ourselves if we were overreacting. (If you want to lurk on some interesting conversations, check out forums for doctors, nurses and pharmacists).

There are so many contradictory reports emerging. I make it a point to ignore American media. They have politicized this thing to an absurd degree. I do try to hear the voices coming from Europe, Australia, Asia, and these present a variety of opinions that often contradict the CDC and other US based bodies.

Having said that, I still try to wash hands and would not go to a crowded restaurant even after they open.

Are you familiar with Dr. Jay Bhattacharya at Stanford and his research in this area?
Here is the latest interview. See what you think.
