As Pope Francis arrives in Washington on Tuesday, Jewish people will be preparing to begin their day-long fast at sundown to atone for the sins of the year before.
The pontiff doesn’t address Congress until Thursday morning, but Jewish lawmakers, particularly those who live far from Washington, will have just broken their fast after the sun set the night before.
So, while no one is outwardly complaining, the choices aren’t ideal: Miss the break fast at home, miss the pope’s historic visit, or travel through the night to fit in both?
