I’m looking for recommendations for books in English----

I’m looking for translations of historic primary sources that address the techniques of writing Byzantine or Russian icons. For example— in Western Art, you have Theophilus’ 12th c. “On Divers Arts”, or Cennini’s “Il Libro dell’ Arte”, or the 15th-c. Göttingen Model Book.

Are there similar manuals/treatises, from, say, the time of Rublev or before? Or from the days of Constantinople before its conquest? I see references to wandering iconographers carrying around “typicons” as they decorated the churches of Russia after they freed themselves from Mongol rule— but looking around for books with that keyword is only bringing up things that deal with “liturgical offices”, which doesn’t quite sound like what I’m visualizing.

Additionally, I know Goethe wrote over 10,000 letters during his lifetime. I’m having trouble tracking down where his 1814’ish correspondence with Empress Maria Fyodorovna and the governor of Vladimir has been published in fulltext. Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance.
