Apparently, there have been a few St Valentines, some of whom were early martyrs.
The feast day was removed from the general calendar in 1969 by Paul VI, seemingly an admission that it was very hard to attach any particular Saint to the day.
What, then, is the veracity or historicity of St Valentine, or the commercialized day that bears his name?
