The channel also aired a documentary about possible early (i.e. pre-Columbian) explorers to the New World. Among those that they mentioned were St. Brendan of Clonfert and a medieval Welsh prince who supposedly came to Mobile, Alabama (and the claim that his group intermarried with an Indian tribe). The show also emphasized that the Polynesians were great explorers who more than likely visited South America and perhaps California. Evidence is derived from the fact that the Polynesians (whom the makers of the documentary did not believe were actually South American Indians who migrated westward, as was claimed by Thor Heyrdahl) were growing sweet potatoes (a New World vegetable) before they came into contact with Europeans. However, I turned off the television when they began to discuss the possibility of ancient Israelites sailing to America and being the ancestors of the Cherokee. That just smacks of Mormon mythology and, in my opinion, is a little too incredible to believe.

I used to watch History a lot back in my New Age days. They had a lot of Da Vinci Code-related material and (of course) Nostradamus-related material.

Now they’ve upped the Ante to Ancient Aliens Programming.

Needless to say, I do not watch History Much Anymore. 👍

Another thing----when History does anything Church-related, they do it in BROADEST Possible Way and with an eye to the “Secret” and “Reform” sensibilities Of Some Viewers.

No Orthodox or “Mainstream” views allowed. 😃
They’re so obsessed with making everything a dark, hidden conspiracy, especially on the subject of the Catholoc Church. The people who make those shows seem a lot like the Protestants who used to make up rumors a long time ago about how at night, Catholics assemble in dungeons and have satanic orgies and drink blood.

There was actually one documentary that wasn’t even subtle about it. It was about the “underground railroad” for Nazis after WW2, the Nazi organizations smuggled war criminals out of Europe to escape punishment. It was a pretty interesting subject, but then it went awry. Apparently, a friar in Italy helped Adolf Eichmann hide there under the direction of a bishop who was sympathetic Fascism and had helped numerous Nazis escape Europe. The History Channel of course, never allowing itself to be limited by reality, equated this bishop with the Vatican, and repeatedly mentioned the Church itself as helping the Nazi war criminals escape. Eventually, the narrator says something to the effect of ‘no on knows how deep the Church’s involvement went,’ and I think implied that the Pope was in on it too. Of course, this ambiguous insinuation was false, because historians know exactly how deep it went: it went as deep as that particular bishop. In fact, the bishop (named Alois Hudal) was actually a pariah within the church because of a controversial book he wrote many years ago sympathizing with Naziism. On his wikipedia page, he is described as being “in exile” in Rome (he was originally from Austria) and was denied any contact with the Pope. But the History channel must have its conspiracy.

I have an idea.

Is it possible to write to history channel about their uninteresting programs?
Perhaps we might be able to persuade them that there are other places in the world where history is quite lacking; and far more entertaining than the same old and monotonous WWII stuff. I mean, we’ve seen like what? Seven different kinds of things on WWII?

Enough is enough, right?

Lemme hear some opnions.

Sure itspossible. Will they ylisten? Only if enough people complain, but its probably worth trying and give suggestions along with complaints.

I`ve noticed this too, sometimes the documentaries will start okay and then out comes every whacko theorist they could have dug up and at the end all you have are far out speculations.

G’day sirs,

I know I’ve been discussing this dilema with several others already about this History Channel issue and most people agree that History Channel isn’t really History Channel.
They have a website and I’m sure that if plenty of people coordinate together and bring forth a plausible argument to them, they should be able to acquiese to our requests. It’s only a matter of action.

I mean, if there is perhaps some other alternative that could be handled, I’d love to read it. 👍

The question is, how should we state our discontentment with their current programs?

That is a good observation.

Aliens…it was all done by aliens!!!😃 That and the Catholic Church is the casue of all evil in Europe and beyond. 😃 It’s becoming pure rubbish.

Does anybody remember the show they had The Naked Archaeologist?
Yes, I remember seeing ads for that show and caught part of one. It was very interesting from what I saw. Did they do reruns of that show? I never got to see more than a little of it.
