One of my close fellow Christians asked me if I knew much about the History Of The Bible… I have read some about it here, but I have been searching for awhile and I can’t find anything … could someone tell me more about how the bible came about, how they chose what to put in it, and what wasn’t relevant, etc?

That would be a huge help =) … Ive searched for a few things on google concerning this, but … I find it a bit hard to understand the formality of the text.

I use my dictionary alot.

Canon means a way of measuring.(a catalog or list,)The books of the Bible officially accepted as Holy Scripture.

If you look at the list of popes you’ll see the times on the side of the names. I use the timeline of the popes to figure out alot of things in history.

Such as in 33ad. Jesus is still alive and so is Peter.

88-97 our 4th pope wrote a letter to the church of Corinth that we still have.

We were on our 27th pope when Emperor Constantine I is born.

Our 37th pope is the one we were on when he called all the bishops together for a council about the** canon **of the Bible. He also had his secretary St. Jerome translate scripture into Latin.

It was when we were on our 32nd pope when the Emperor Constantine I proclaimed religious toleration in the Roman Empire. It was no longer illegal to be Christian.

Our 218th pope is the one who excommunicated Martin Luther. Before that there was no such thing as a “Protestant”. The Protestant Reformation began after that. They “protested” against the authority of Rome.

Everyone will improve on my explanation but I hope this helps:blush:
