I need an online scholarly medical source to support the Catholic-friendly methods of preventing HIV. I know all the methods from elementary and high school, but I need something scholarly to cite that’s from a medical source. If anyone knows of one, it would be quite helpful.

You need a scholarly source to tell you that abstinence prevents the spread of HIV?

DeoGratias, if you need a scholarly source, you might want to do a search using Google Scholar.

scholar.google.com/

I would suggest you start your search by looking for articles authored by this Harvard researcher:

“Edward C. Green”

You will get many links to articles and abstracts of articles, so you might need to narrow the search down to the last few years. Actually, citing a recent article might be a good idea anyways.

May I add that in most cases, sex is voluntary? Unlike germs that float through the air or the flu, an exchange of bodily fluids is required.

Here is one scholarly source that agrees with the Pope:

catholicnewsagency.com/news/harvard_researcher_agrees_with_pope_on_condoms_in_africa/

I do hope that all of us, gay and straight, get to the point that we realize we cannot have sex with someone we don’t know or hardly know. And that the word epidemic in not appropriate. We have the intelligence to not engage in sex with strangers so why not use it?

Peace,
Ed

As dumb as it sounds, yes.
The view opposing abstinence isn’t that it has been tried and found wanting; it has been found difficult and not tried. In other words people don’t have the spine these days to say no to sex.

You do realize that some people are born with HIV.
But then the mother acquired it. Ant-Retroviral Therapy pre labour and during labour reduces transmission significantly.

Some people acquire HIV through rape and child abuse. But again the people who gave them the HIV got it somehow. Had the people who raped/abused the victim abstained from abuse/rape the victim would be HIV free too.

That is how evil likes to work. You commit one evil act and its has bad consequences. These easiest way to fight these bad consequences is of course more evil. It feeds on itself.
