Pat isn’t presuming to speak for the Lord. The church has discouraged this practice, and there’s many good arguments against it, so there’s no reason for us to continue it. He is presuming that the church speaks for the lord, and simply repeating the church.
The Church isn’t discouraging the practice, It is letting it remain as a practice of personal devotion. If it is good or not comes down to personal preference.

This is how I understand it: the rubrics for the Mass say nothing about holding hands. Therefore, it had to have been added in. Therefore, the rules have been broken (this is seen in the second post) and the practice should be ceased.
