Hollywood Star Asks for Forgiveness for a Crime He Committed As A Teenager, After Having Embraced the Catholic Faith, Victim Forgives Him

Mark Wahlberg and Johnny Trinh are both blessed to be in the Church that Jesus founded, the Catholic Church, to have access to the Sacraments He instituted and be assured foregiveness.
 
It’s a remarkable story, but let us not forget that Wahlberg attacked two victims in the space of a minute or two that day in 1988, and that – as far as we know – only one of them has forgiven him.

That shopkeeper, identified as Thanh Lam, was struck by in the head by Wahlberg who assailed him with a stick. Wahlberg wanted to rob the man, but after striking him unconscious, the teenager fled without anything.

The Catholic.org news story never mentions Thanh Lam again. Did he recover from his injury? We have not been told.

Wahlberg’s second victim, the one who has forgiven him, is named as Johnny Trinh. How seriously was he injured in the incident? In the opening paragraph we are told:

According to police, Wahlberg hit his victim so hard in the face, he blinded him.

A few paragraphs later, however, we learn that Wahlberg did not blind his victim, after all:

Trinh was not blinded by Wahlberg in 1988, but had lost his eye fighting the communists in Vietnam. The 59-year old Trinh says he has forgiven Wahlberg who really didn’t injure him. Although he was hurt in the assault, he recovered quickly.

So what about Thanh Lam? Did he recover quickly, too?

A long overdue act of penance on Wahlberg’s case. But I guess beter late than never.

He is truly a better role model for the youth than the Biebers and Kardashians running around.
