The argument usually trotted out (not by you, I’m speaking about on the Internet) is that John (Cyril’s successor) was an Arian or a semi-Arian or a Nestorian or something like that. He was neither. He was accused of Origen-ism which really has nothing to do with the Holy Eucharist.Still no support. As to the quote by St. Cyril, I’ve heard that that likely was not written by him but by his successorwho was not very orthodox.

The quote that is allegedly by St. Cyril (no disrespect intended Sure) is the only defense I ever hear for Communion in the hand in the early Church.
Other saints also testify to it- St. Basil, St. John Chrysostom, S. John Damascene to name three. Bede mentions it in a monastery. There are a couple of early councils including Trullo (often mistakenly cited as banning it) Likewise in a few of the Oriental liturgies, there are still extant prayers which have not changed even thoguh the method of reception might have that speak of the hands being stretched out to receive the Holy CommunionAnybody have anything else?
