I and some of our parishioners have an objection regarding our catholic priest’s final blessing at the mass. He says “May almighty God Bless us the father the son and the Holy Spirit” but in the Roman Missal it’s written as “May almighty God bless you…”. Why does the priest include himself in the blessing? Should he not represent Christ from the alter and bless people only? Is it not a lay bless when he says “bless us”? When we asked the priest about this, he said it’s nothing wrong. Can you please clarify this? Is it not wrong to change the words according to the liturgy and rubrics of the Roman Missal?
