Why is it that in the Didache only two ranks of clergy (if those are official ranks) are mentioned- Apostles and Prophets? I saw no mention of Bishops (unless these are the Apostles reffered to), Priests or Deacons.
Well, in the 1st century, terms were more fluid. While the three seperate offices definitely existed, they were sometimes referred to by the same names. An example is Paul, who sometimes referred to himself as a deacon, which means servant in the original language. However, we all know Paul had a much higher office.
