Often the “conservative” or “traditionalist” Catholic blogsphere will report alleged unjust “persecution” of traditional religious communities by the Holy See. A recent example can be found on Fr Z’s blog here: http://wdtprs.com/blog/2018/11/anot...ed-by-the-vatican-congregation-for-religious/

According to Father, these sisters were punished by the Holy See simply because they worship in Latin and wear traditional habits. Many similar stories have been posted in recent years. I have to believe there’s two sides to this and similar stories… does anyone know of any “alternative” interpretations of this, or to use another prominent example, the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate, case?

Remember there was also the massive visitation of the LCWR…

True, but the charges against the LCWR were very public and dealt primarily with heresies (some minor, some major).

So far, I haven’t seen what the charges are against these traditional groups.

God bless

Follow up question: what is the sourcing for this alleged destruction of the Little Sisters of Mary, the Mother of the Redemer, in Saint-Aignan-sur-Roe, France? I can find anything that looks in anyway credible.

Precisely my point. The issues raised with the LCWR were public. They are not a traditionalist group by any stretch. So, one can’t say that it’s always the traditionalists.

With the exception of the FFI, many of these charges of the Vatican “destroying” a traditionalist order go largely unsubstantiated. (The FFI was not “destroyed”)

That’s why I’m asking. I keep hearing, from traditionalist / conservative leaning sources, about these groups that are allegedly being unjustly “persecuted” by the Holy See… I"m wondering if there is another side of the story…

There hasn’t been one that has been made public - at least not one that I’m aware of.

The Holy See was very patient with the LCWR. Some members / groups within the LCWR umbrella had been publicly espousing heretical views for decades…

The LCWR didn’t think the Vatican was being patient or fair for that matter. It’s one of those things that is in the eye of the beholder.

There was change, reorganization, and oversight. I think it’s fair to say that they have pulled back significantly from some of the heretical issues they were alleged to have promote.

Wasn’t the LCWR investigation started under Pope Benedict? I don’t think you can compare that against the investigations started by Pope Francis if that is so since I doubt he would have even started an investigation of them if he was Pope at the time. That particular investigation ended under Pope Francis, and I believe they got off without many negative findings from the Vatican.
