I have a slight situation. I run a martial arts club. At present I am the only one capable of running a class unsupervised. We have a class on Thursday that finishes at 8. However Holy Thursday Mass begins at 7.30.

Am I allowed to miss this Mass or is it a Holy Day of Obligation? It is a little late to make alternative arrangements unfortunately our parish only released the times on Palm Sunday.

God bless

Peter

Not a Holy Day of Obligation. Finish class, go to Mass late, and make a note to yourself to cancel the class in advance of next Holy Thursday.

Will do. I was absolutely sure this year that Mass was at 8pm and all I’d have to do is close 5-10 minutes earlier. However it seems I’ve confused Holy Thursday Mass with the Easter Vigil on Saturday, which is at 8pm. Mea Culpa i guess :o.

Thank you and God bless.

Just noticed that you’re in the UK - so I can’t be 100% sure it’s not a Holy Day of Obligation for you. It isn’t in the States. Best check with your parish to make sure!

A blessed Easter to you and yours.

Looks like it isn’t. I will try to schedule earlier classes but if I can’t they have Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament up until 10pm, so I’ll be able to attend Adoration.

It’s not a holy day of obligation, but I’d offer that we should think about the fact that the Triduum is the highest holy liturgical period of our year. This means all the liturgical celebrations of the Triduum. Why wouldn’t we treat it as such, simply because the rules don’t mandate any particular part of it as obligatory?
