Holy Water from Baptismal

Hello,

I was wondering if it would be all right for me to take holy water in a small jar from the baptismal or should I just ask a priest to bless holy water?

Usually there is a tank of holy water in the sacristy or elsewhere in the church. It is normally expected that anyone could fill a jar or bottle and take it with them. Just ask where you can fill your jar.

And if there isn’t a tank, you can bring a jar of water from home and have the priest bless it for you.

If the baptismal font in church is not covered, then just take the water from this baptismal font in a clean container. Otherwise if there is a container that is labeled holy water, then take the water from this. There is never a charge.

Sure, it’s fine to take some of the water from the font. The water is newly blessed as part of the baptismal rite, so don’t worry that it will be “out” for the next baptism. If it gets emptied rather quickly, by the way, maybe the priest will get the idea that the parish needs a holy water dispenser for the parishioners!

FYI, I have a small vial of water from each of my children’s baptisms. I plan on adding a drop of that into the font when they eventually have children and have them baptized.
