I was wondering if there were any biblical writings that have holy water as a healing property?

I’m not asking about Lourdes but holy water specifically.

Is it just for blessing and to put devils to flight?

Thank you for your time.

Hi Deidre,

Welcome to the forum. 🙂

Here is a PDF article written by a priest about Holy Water. It is detailed and a bit lengthy, but it explains things in detail:

catholicpamphlets.net/pamphlets/HOLY%20WATER.pdf

The Bible mentions Holy Water in the Book of Numbers:5:17 from the New American Standard Bible:

and the priest shall take holy water in an earthenware vessel; and he shall take some of the dust that is on the floor of the tabernacle and put it into the water.

Holy Water is one of the sacramentals used in the Church. Besides being used in blessings, It is used for warding off evil and for protection from illness and storms, and for the remittance of venial sins, too.

Remember there are a lot of things done in the OT that do not pertain to today. Jesus fulfilled the law and the requirements.

Hi SJacob,

I am not quite sure why you are addressing your comments to me, as I am not the one with the questions in the post?

I was literally answering the questions in Deirdre’s post, if you happened to read the questions that she asked in her post. 🙂

From my understanding, she wanted to know where Holy Water was mentioned in the Bible, so I answered that question for her, and then she was wondering “how” Holy Water is used, and I was explaining that to her, along with posting a more in-depth article for her.
