Holy Week and Latin Mass

I’ve been to Latin Mass many times, but this is the first year I’ve been able to attend regularly 🙂 I’ve been to Palm Sunday High Mass, but never the rest of the week’s services…what should I expect on Holy Thursday, Good Friday and the Easter Vigil that would be different from the NO English Mass.

Honestly, it will feel like a different religion.
 
I would love to be at a Latin Mass parish for Holy Week. My friend goes to a Latin Mass parish and has nothing but beautiful words to say. The nearest church to me that offers it is 2 hours away. Please pray for all of us for whom Latin Masses are not available. It almost upsets me that what was once commonplace is now only a luxury for those who can afford to travel long distances.

Nothing- St. Francis de Sales Oratory has their own Orchestra from their lay faithful. I believe they meet before performances with the Oratory’s director Nick Botkins. They perform at the major feast days of the year, usually rotating between a number of mass settings for each liturgy from year to year.

The lay faithful here are pretty passionate about the liturgy and sacred music. : )

…the** Saint Francis de Sales Oratory Orchestra** was developed to offer ensemble playing experience for the growing number of faithful who play orchestral instruments. The chamber ensemble has accompanied the choir for various Masses and motets. The Orchestra rehearses as necessary in preparation of special events.

I know that you mean well, but I do think that many people would be offended by the last sentence, which makes Latin Mass attendees sound like affluent elitists. Nothing could be further from the truth.

What a privileged parish. The soprano is excellent.
 
I’m going to attend the NO for the vigil but TLM on Easter Sunday. I’ve been going to both rites for almost 6 months now and I can’t bear to not experience TLM for Easter.

no no no that’s not what I meant at all. I meant that if you are poor and can’t afford to drive, chances are likely you won’t be able to make it to a Latin Mass because parishes that offer them are usually so far-spaced apart. It was a comment on how far away some of these churches are for some people. I am saying, it should be readily available for everyone. That’s all I meant.

No matter where it is located, somebody is going to have to drive a long distance to get there, rich or poor, because there is not an EF in every parish, and since the OF is the regular Mass for the 1.1 billion Catholics in the world, the EF is just that–the EXTRAordinary form, thus it is expected that there are far fewer of them.

It would be nice if everyone could attend the Mass they wish to-but that is unrealistic and I would expect it to remain that way, but maybe some day you will get your wish and be able to drive wherever you want. The important thing is that Jesus is at every Mass and that is what is to be focused on, otherwise you will miss the whole point of being at Mass at all.

I was a student on student loans when I started attending the EF Mass, which was a 4 hour round trip every Sunday. I made it my priority and cut out whatever I could in order to afford the gas money for the drive each week. I eventually put all my trust in God’s Divine Providence and moved to the city that offered it. My rationale- if it’s God’s will I attend the EF Mass, He will make it possible. While I haven’t lived the life of luxury and have had to have a strong spirit of detachment, everything has worked out well.
 
Well, I understood what you were saying Latin Girl. The Triduum will be celebrated again this year by our only FSSP parish in Seattle (120 miles from my house). We’ve gone thta last two years. Saved all year for this and won’t miss it. May have to drive it every day but we’ll be there. 👍
