For all who call themselves Roman Catholics, next week is Holy Week and the most important and solemn occasions related to the Passion Our Lord are celebrated throughout the church. If you have access to a parish that offers Holy Week services in the Extraordinary Form, consider taking some time off work if possible to attend Tenebrae on Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday as well as the stripping of the altar and procession to the altar of repose on Holy Thursday, the Mass of the Presanctified on Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil on Saturday.

If you have never experienced an Easter Vigil in the Extraordinary Form with the blessing of the new water and fire, you will never forget your first experience, especially at the ringing of the bells at the first Gloria.

We do both of those in the Ordinary Form at my parish.

So are you saying that if we do NOT have access to the EF we should NOT consider taking some time off work if possible to attend Tenebrae on Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday as well as the stripping of the altar and procession to the altar of repose on Holy Thursday, the Mass of the Presanctified on Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil on Saturday?

I guess that I will have to tell my family that we will skip adoration 'till midnight this Holy Thursday. :o

Cris,

Amazing that you would come to that deduction from my original post!

Let me say it a little clearer and slower. EVERY Catholic should take time off and be in church as much as possible during Holy Week. To my knowledge, some prayers like Tenebrae and the Prophesies do not exist in the OF. So, if you have the choice, you might try the Extraordinary Holy Week Rites if you have never assisted in them.

However, Do NOT lock your wife and kids up in the closet to prevent them from attending adoration in the OF during Holy Week. I repeat, DO NOT prevent any Catholic from attending Holy Week services. On the contrary, encourage them to assist in either rite.

Hope that is much clearer and alleviates any nefarious intent in my post.

Giuseppe,
I am sorry for trying to pull your leg in a very unfair way. Sometime when I am on CAF I am not as charitable as I should. I sincerely hope that you will enjoy a blessed Palm Sunday. I always get teary eyed during the reading of the passion of our Lord, and I hope that this year it will help me one more time to be considerate to other people.
