A thread about holy water was partially hijacked to talk about whiskey, so… Let’s have a dedicated place to discuss it!

What are y’all drinking?

Lol. Alas, I quit drinking alcohol about 8 years ago. I didn’t drink that much to begin with. I just quit going out to events with liquor. I never really drank at home.

Haven’t had alcohol in 76 months. One of the best decisions (if not the best) of my life.

I’m good for one drink, the 2nd gives me a headache while I’m drinking it.

choice right now is Buffalo Trace

Right now, coffee.

I do enjoy an occasional glass of Pinot Grigio, a beer or a whiskey sour made with Jameson’s.
I am flexible. 😉 I probably have a drink once every few months if we are out to dinner or have a family dinner.

I couldn’t tell you the difference between any whiskey or bourbon. Now beers, that’s a different story. However, that would be derailing this thread too 😆, carry on.

My Christmas bottle is Red Breast 12 year old by Jameson. I drink it neat, about 1/2 shot at a time, out of a nice bourbon glass that lets me just stick my nose into the bouquet and drink it in. It’s lovely.

I was brought up that it was at least a venial sin to mix (let alone cook with!!) a good sipping whiskey.

When I need something like “whiskey extract,” right now I have a bottle of Seagram’s VO Gold. The problems it has as a drinking whiskey are covered up when it is in some dessert sauce with vanilla and lots of brown sugar. (I have heard it works as a mixer for the same reasons.)

I have also used Evan Williams Black Label for cooking. It is inexpensive and does the job fine.

I am not a whiskey drinker, but even I can tell the difference that Jameson makes in a whiskey sour. It is better than other brands.

There are so many brands out there and the brands keep getting bought and sold, so it is hard to keep up.

Just as an aside: My dad and grandpa drank Macnaughton’s on weekdays and Crown Royal for special occasions. When I saw Crown Royal starting to be sold in a range of candy flavors as if it were Mike’s Lemonade, I thought it was an abomination. The world going to $%#& in a handbasket. Etc.

Woodford reserve or Old Forester. However, I’m trying to cut back on alcohol consumption.

Yes, an explosion of brands…it makes you just stick with your favorite, doesn’t it?😉

I rarely drink anymore (3 or 4 times a year tops) but when I do it’s solely Scotch, no more than three mouthfuls spread out over a half hour or so. My bottles of Laphroaig 10 year old and Ardbeg 10 year old will last me forever and are all I need. If one is into smoky, peaty single malt for are the ones to get. I’ve tried Scotch that was more expensive but these are as good as any as those.

I could have 150 mL of Laphroaig 10 Year Old and it would last me a lifetime. I can tell it is extraordinary at what it is trying to do, but I really don’t like what it is trying to do. Better left for someone who’ll appreciate it, whew!!

Ardbeg 10 is one of my favorites, and my go-to when I want something smoky.

My favorite scotch so far has been Oban.
