I need to ask my parish priest as well. But I’m homebound, and my relatives usually bring me Communion. My mom is a Eucharistic minister and my wife also brings me Communion, with permission from the pastor… For example, if my mom goes to Saturday evening Mass and brings me Communion, and then my wife and kids go to Sunday morning Mass, may she bring me Communion again?

Does anyone know the Canon law on that? My understanding is that a homebound person may receive Communion once each day. But I"m not sure if that’s the case with the Saturday evening Mass and the Sunday morning Masses, since they are, in a sense the same Mass.

Thanks

Saturday and Sunday are two different days. A day is midnight to midnight. Be at peace.

Canon Law views a day as midnight-to-midnight. I’m not aware of any reason a homebound person would be treated differently.

Thanks guys. I appreciate your help. You answered my question, confirming what I thought. You’re in my prayers to Our Lady.

Cor ad Cor. Btw, my understanding–perhaps incorrect–is that a person can attend Mass twice in one day and receive Communion both times. But a homebound person can’t receive Communion twice in one day. I’m not sure why, but I would speculate that it has to do with the fact that they may not be able to prepare as well due to not being at Mass (?)

Peace of Christ in Mary.

The second time you receive, per Canon Law, must be at Mass, which is why a homebound person would be limited. If you ever had a Mass in your home* after having received earlier in the day, as far as I know, you could receive again.

There are exceptions for viaticum (your ‘death bed’ Communion).

*I’m not going to argue the whether-or-nots of having Mass in the home is a proper thing to do.

Having Mass in the home for no reason is different from having Mass in the home for the benefit of one who cannot attend Mass otherwise.
