We live in a relatively safe area but just had a rather frightening experience with a strange man appearing at our door in the middle of the night. Given the somewhat odd circumstances in which we’re all living, we’re thinking vigilance is going to be increasingly important. We don’t own a firearm and it’s likely we won’t anytime soon (I’m not even sure we could be properly trained in the use of one during the lock down). We are willing, though, to get a security system. We had one at a previous house in the inner city. At that time we used ADT but as that was many years ago, I’m not up on newer/better companies or new innovations in this area.

Any recommendations for home security companies?

No experience myself but my brother-in-law has Xfinity Home (i think that’s what it is called) which he is quite happy with. Personally i don’t like the idea of internet connected cameras in my home but the systems gets good reviews from him at least.

Haha – I knew someone would say that. We’re not capable of having a dog at the moment.

How about going to a kennel and recording the barkings of several large, loud dogs, and playing it back if that guy ever shows up again – or anyone else suspicious? Should work just as well. Behind closed doors, no one would know it isn’t the real thing.
