Hmm, I think what would make this Statue more real Is if Our Lord Jesus was helping the homeless man or another person (whether it be a man or woman) helping the homeless person out after all we are supposed to see Christ in everyone.

I’m thinking of Matthew 25:31-46

Not that it matters but just my :twocents:

Now, go serve the poor 🙂

God bless,

Yes, that’s an excellent idea! 👍

I do not see anything morally wrong in this magnificent creation. I think there is a another topic here in the article that no one is catching on.

Why are church councils making the decision on the use of this statue? The priest gets the final say not some self elected council. We are not the other christian factions where some council hires a ‘pastor’.

I’m putting this in the popular media forum, because I think it fits best here, if it needs to be moved, go ahead. 🙂

“The Son of Man has no place to lay his head.” That’s the first thing I thought about when I saw the statue. Also, “What you do to the least of my brothers, you do to me.”

But the thing that really grabbed me and won’t let go, is the thought of how many times I’ve left Jesus out in the cold, instead of bringing Him inside. How often have I stepped over Christ? How often have I tried to just pretend He isn’t there? And it makes me so ashamed. 😦

I don’t think the artist is using Christ just to cause controversy or for attention as so many “artists” seem to do. I looked at his website sculpturebytps.com/ and he specializes in Christian sculptures and has done many amazing works.
As a person who is an art enthusiast and devout Catholic, I love this piece! I live in NYC and to see that in Saint Patrick’s Cathedral would be wonderful, but it is sad that it will not be so. The church in Manhattan that I like attending most, The Church of St. Francis of Assisi, on 31st street would probably take it. Franciscan spirituality is at the heart of everything that takes place in that church, I even hope to offer them my services eventually when I am ready. It has a wonderful history and has been visited by famous Catholics in the past, Dorothy Day and Thomas Merton are only two who have frequently went there, not to mention Fr. Mychal Judge who died heroically on 9/11 and made that church the center of his life. I think that would be a wonderful choice, I may even have a suggestion where they could put it. 🙂 They are a church that is very dedicated to helping the poor and they do so openly everyday and are loved by many of the homeless people in the area, therefore, I think that would be the best place for it to go.

Well, what do you know! Thoughtful, meaningful art about Christ that doesn’t try to shock or offend. Who would’ve thunk it? 😃

Sure, we can argue about this being a slur on His dignity, but remember that He lived a simple life, cared for His lost fellow citizens who were “sheep without a shepherd”, and allowed Himself to be subjected to the worst indignities, all to atone for our sins. He identified himself with suffering humanity during His life on earth, and if that was the artist’s intention, I approve this message. 😃
