Everywhere online I’ve looked so far, no one has asked this question. With those houses we build after the resurrection in New Earth (Isaiah 65:21), do we have to option of living alone in them or with someone else/multiple people? Because I really, really don’t want to live in an otherwise empty house. I feel like it’s an easy answer and that we won’t be forced to be alone, but questions like these leave me with a gwaning doubt unless spelled out very clearly.

Welcome to Catholic Answers Forums!

The most important thing about God/heaven/eternity is love, which, among other things, means personal relationship with God and with other people, so I figure that no one will be alone in heaven or on the new earth.

So can I infer a “yes” or “I don’t see why not” from this to specifically living with another person/people under the same roof?

Okay, I see that I did not specifically answer your question about living arrangements. I will approach that question from a different angle.

If you look at the way humans have lived for thousands of years in every part of the world, they almost never have lived alone. These days, in some cultures (like the US), a lot of people have their own room, and a few people have their own house, but if you look worldwide or historically, this is an anomaly. It is more typical to live many in a house and sleep several in a room.

Living with other people is how humans naturally live. We are social creatures. That is how God made us. We are not meant to be alone. We are not meant to live in a house alone.

Based on these observations and conclusions about human nature and God’s plan, I would expect that after the resurrection, I will live comfortably with a lot of people (and a lot of love) in a large house, and so will you.

Thank you so much! I know I get weird about subjects like these, but I always have nitpicky questions about subjects that are vague. So as you can imagine, I try not to think about new heaven and earth too much because of their ambiguity in scrupture. Have a good one!

“It is not good for man to be alone” that being said if you were the only soul to attain heaven you still would not be alone. The company of God would presumably, be enough to overcome any loneliness. However, we do know that there are human souls in heaven who will be part of the resurrection of the body so we know that we will also have the company of others.

As for myself, the living arrangements of the new earth aren’t really a concern of mine. Contemplating living in the Beatific Vision and what that actually means seems like a better use of time.
