Homosexuals and Hell

I had a friend who was a lifelong unrepentant homosexual. He was raised Catholic. My question is do all unrepentant homosexuals go to Hell? My friend had been sexually molested by his own brothers at age 6. Is that a mitigating factor for his sin? I had a troubling dream in which my friend came to me and told me he doesn’t stand a chance. I took that to mean his salvation was not possible. I had a mass said for him and walked through the Door of Mercy for him. I pray for God to have mercy on his soul. I’ve done everything I know how to do. Is there no hope for an unrepentant homosexual? He died suddenly without opportunity for confession or any sacraments.

Continue praying for him and having Masses said. I’ve had dreams where neighbors who’ve passed away have approached me. I immediately had Masses offered. Perhaps your friend is in Purgatory… Keep praying

Unrepented mortal sin is what leads to damnation. If his actions are chosen as the result of trauma, such that he is unable to make this choice with full knowledge and deliberate consent, then his sin is not mortal.

In any case, this is not ours to judge. It’s up to God. We pray, and help, and love all our brothers and sisters, regardless which temptations they face.

BTW – you also don’t know the state of his soul, or his potential desire for repentance, at the time of his passing. Pray for him.

This question is above anyone’s pay grade. Only God knows the disposition of the human soul at the time of death and only God can say where someone will spend eternity.

Pray for your friend and trust in God’s infinite mercy.

You can have a mass said for him and follow that up with a personal offering such has help in a local charity. If he is in purgatory, this may shorten his stay or indeed may be the key to his entry to heaven. Sometimes God is simply waiting for someone to show he cares. There are orders of cloistered nuns or brothers who will take prayer requests. Here you have the immense power of group prayer.(an optional small donation would be a kind gesture.)_
