How far should you take honor your parents? What if you know they are wrong?

What about if they are wrong, and there are no doubts, even others know they are wrong and hurting you?

I always understood it in the same way we are to follow the rule of the government. We are to obey/honor so far as they do not contradict the rule of God.

when in doubt…turn to the bible. specifically, the fourth commandment. but as we see, it’s unclear on the surface of scripture - what is our catholic response? take it to the church!

catechism of the catholic church:
**2217 **As long as a child lives at home with his parents, the child should obey his parents in all that they ask of him when it is for his good or that of the family. "Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord."22 Children should also obey the reasonable directions of their teachers and all to whom their parents have entrusted them. But if a child is convinced in conscience that it would be morally wrong to obey a particular order, he must not do so. (…i added the bold…)

here’s a link to the entire section on the fourth commandment if this doesn’t answer your question…

good luck, and God bless,
