I would like share this beautiful image created in honor of the twenty-one Coptic Christian Martyrs killed by ISIS. May Maran Mar Isho Mashiha watch over all Christians, Muslims, and others murdered and persecuted by ISIS. My heart goes out to all who face this tribulation.

Thank you, Thomas, for sharing this beautiful & inspiring picture. May God be with all those who suffer from this plague of violence.

Thomas, please forgive my ignorance but can you please tell me what “Maran Mar Isho Mashiha” means? My Google search and Google translate have turned up nothing that I found useful.

I think it means “Our Lord Jesus Christ.” Mashiha seems like Messiah and Isho seems like a regional derivation from Yeshua, which I think is close to the original pronunciation of Jesus.

Thank you. How beautiful. May they rest in peace in God’s embrace.

O New Martyrs, through a malevolent force as old as Eden you now number among the ancient holy ones; keep us particularly in your prayers, as once again we are focused on the mysterious lands where humanity first came into being, and into knowing, and where all will finally be revealed. Pray that we may put aside all that is irrelevant to the moment and, looking forever to the East, prepare our spirits for the engagements into which we may be called, whether we live amid these places of ancient roads and portals, or in the most modern of dwellings.
Mary, the God-bearer, pray for us,
Saint Michael the Archangel, pray for us,
Saint John the Forerunner, pray for us,
All Holy Men and Women, pray for us.
Amen, Amen.
I feel insufficient to the task. Add your own prayers in the combox.
UPDATE:
Deacon Greg is naming these martyrs in his Ash Wednesday homily

That image is beautiful. Who created it, and can it be shared?

thanks Thomas, the icon is just beautiful
thanks Morwenna for the links.

Holy Martyrs pray for us!

Thomas, please forgive my ignorance but can you please tell me what “Maran Mar Isho Mashiha” means? My Google search and Google translate have turned up nothing that I found useful.
I apologize the fault is mine, I tend to instinctively write certain terms when posting. Maran Mar Isho Mashiha means Lord Jesus the Messiah in Syriac.

a very beautiful icon image

now these holy men can pray for us as well as we for them

it is humbling to see mass martyrdom performed on twitter the same way or perhaps in an even crueler fashion than the way the pagan romans did it in the coliseum

I saw this on a Catholic website: the Coptics (while what they did was certainly heroic) are not official martyrs in the Catholic Church because the Coptic Orthodox Church is not in full communion with Rome .

The Pope recognized them as martyrs already though.
“The Lord welcome them as martyrs, for their families, for my brother [Coptic Pope] Tawadros, who is suffering greatly,” Pope Francis

Yep! Humbling and chilling.

In her article, “I Know It When I See It”, Michelle Arnold referred to it as “death porn”.

This beatific icon goes some way towards overcoming horror and transforming it into consolation.

Who really cares? They’re martyrs of the Christian faith, as they died exactly because of their faith in Christ.

Though what happened to them is horrible and I would definitely not want it to be done, it is awe-inspiring to see the testimonies of these martyrs in the modern world. All accounts of martyrdom I know were in the past except for this one that has been seen all over the world. Holy Martyrs of Egypt, pray for us!
