In a recent pronouncement by Pope Benedict XVI, the pontif stated his position on ecumenism. In this article…ewtn.com/vnews/getstory.asp?number=56259…, even Alexy of Russia seems positive on bettering relations with Rome. Other churches are mentioned as well and in the same regard.

What other Orthodox reactions are there? How does this effect future relations? What does this mean in terms of future discussion and dialogue?

I dont have any problem with discussions and dialogue. What I do have problems with is the idea that we Orthodox Catholics can compromise our doctrines for the sake of unity. Pope Benedict XVI and Alexi II will no doubt have meetings. I think that this is a good thing. There are a lot of areas we can both support without dogmatic controversies.
