CAF’s occasionally been a great resource over the 2.5 years I’ve been a member, but lately it’s been taking a lot more from me than it ever gave. Every day I’m on I come across at least one thread involving horrific racism, sexism, xenophobia, and people presenting their incorrect opinions as Church teaching. I’ve been told by at least one person that my personal struggles with Church teaching are evidence of my moral deficiency, and have come across countless others who have no problem shaming posters who express similar struggles. Because of this, I’ve become quite disillusioned toward my fellow Catholics as a whole, and have occasionally wondered how my faith can be true, given the kind of people it seems to produce.

I would really encourage y’all to consider how you come across to people on the outside looking in. We’re called to be fishers of men, and Jesus won’t reward you according to how well you preach to the choir.

So farewell, and thanks to everyone who gave me encouragement, compassion, and friendship throughout the years. You know who you are.

Too many good people are leaving this website for the same reasons you are leaving. The owners of this site obviously have a “wait and see” attitude regarding this new platform. I’m sure the owners of the Discourse platform are also nervously watching. Things so far are not going well.

My current experience on CAF has become something of a lark. As it is currently here on CAF, reasonable posters are leaving because the current platform is unable to handle this type of forum.

I don’t like to see people throwing up their hands and leaving. Perhaps I look at CAF differently. I’ve encountered quite a bit of rubbish on here but isn’t it the same in real life? No matter where you go, you’ll find disagreement. The goal “here” is that it shall be civil and hopefully an informative discussion.

I’ve seen that stuff. If it’s truly offensive, it’s removed. The Moderators are few but prompt.

If there’s a problem Flag it. However, if you’re openly contradicting Church Teaching you’ll probably catch flack.

Somehow, things don’t seem that bleak to me. I wouldn’t take some bad experiences on CAF and apply it to the entire Catholic population.

Hopefully, anyone not behaving will be suspended. I believe we do have some good solid posters here who conduct themselves appropriately.

Why leave? Why not just “lurk” for a while? You might find a future post that lifts up your faith and your spirit. Like the old saying goes, you have to kiss a few frogs to find Prince Charming.
Good, faithful, charitable posters are always needed. After all, “the harvest is great, the laborers are few.”
 
Agreed. I see no reason to throw in the towel. Post at your leisure and where you wish.

Lurking is good.Some of us have beliefs that show, we aren’t living Christ,as well, as we should. I’ve pondered why, though raised on the same Bible, even w different denominations, we have different opinions. Leaving doesn’t stop that. A differing voice could change a worldly viewpoint to a more Christlike one?
Why are we not one on Abortion? Why do we not assess our political platforms and party frequently. Being Dem. used to be good. As Cardinal Dolan stated,”The Dems have deserted the Catholics.” I mention politics b/c we are so divided. I see Christ working in POTUS. Some, only see his past sins that are coming out to convict him!? He’s not a Saint, nor I.
Love & togetherness. Look at deeds being done?! I believe the person he is will evolve into being a good Christian. If the attacks would stop.
Whatever discussion, Christ should end up in the answer.
I don’t know what to say. I’m sorry if some of my entries got frustrated. I do try to stand up against hate. I do try to show the love of God.

Must everything be political and a jab at Democrats? They are no worse than Republicans. There are good and bad, very bad, in both. This is the kind of stuff that divides us and causes people to leave.

These internet forums are a mixed bag. You can get a lot of good information, but you have to wade through a lot of jerks to get it! You just have to develop a thick skin. On the other hand, there are way more useful things you could be doing with your life other than staring at a computer screen.

Dear CL,
We were discussing Graces leaving CAF. She felt the division. I was apologizing for mine, but confused why we are so divided. I mention I was a DEM. I explained why I left in other posts. I’m informing all of what Father Dolan said. I’m suggesting ppl to check our platforms and where our parties will bring us. Ppl have been debating abortion before I came to this site. That’s an intense topic.
Our Pres. is a hot topic. I guess, it’s a value system how we deal w it. I’m still curious why we aren’t on the same value system. I’ll die staying curious.
