Do you know what is one of the major difficulties of being an intelligent creature that knows what evil is? We can comprehend quite a lot of evil and the nature of it. We can imagine more evil than we have personally witnessed, by way of fear especially. Then, when we have imagined the callous or even the total heartlessness of a creature, we can tend to over react to fellow creatures by first projecting too much suspicion or fear of evil onto others in certain situations and then treating them according to the arising possibility of that evil to some greater or lesser degree. Regretfully, some may draw upon actual experience rather than imagination.
So much talk, analysis, speculation, artful rendering, and factual accounts of terrible figures such as psychopaths, sociopaths, mass murderers, serial murderers, rapists, brutal gangs, and so on, sets the imagination to work. Strangers can become frightful. Neighbors spooky. Even every nice man and woman is suspect. Seems easy to fall into an obsession with enemies. Hopefully we do not fall in to the habit of fearing an enemy behind every face. Though, the possibility exists especially in unfamiliar people.
As is written in the bible, in times of widespread wickedness, there also is the potential for our own love to grow cold. Our Father in heaven knows all about this. Hopefully, we can be knowledgeable, and still be hospitable and yet smart in such times.
