I’m not sure where this goes, but i will ask here…
Today I called in sick. I started my job 2 months ago and have never called in sick, and I take everyone’s shifts when they call in sick. I couldn’t believe the ignorance of the supervisor. Here’s the conversation:
Me: Is K******** there?
Her: No she’s in this afternoon.
Me: Is a cash supervisor in?
Her: I’m L*****, I’m a supervisor (I’ve never met her before). What do you want?
Me: I’m Rachel, I’m supposed to work cash today but I won’t be able to make it.
Her: (very ignorantly) Well, what’s wrong with you?
Me: I’m sick, I have a bad cold.
Her: What, there’s no way you can make it?
Me: No, I’m sorry, but I will be in for my next shift.
Her: big exasperated sigh Fine, whatever, I’ll tell T*****
Hangs up on me.
Never have I worked anywhere have I gotten such an ignorant response. I thought this was awful and it made me feel so guilty for calling in sick. I was going to call back and say never mind but i didn’t want to waste their money if I couldn’t perform my job properly. Though I’ve never done anything wrong to them, no one there seems to like me very much even though i go out of my way to take extra shifts when they need me to. I just took one for friday, no questions asked even though it’s my only day off. Besides the fact that I was told during my training that if we were sick with something contagious, to call in so no one else gets it, i thought I was doing somethign right.
So, are people who make an hourly wage entitled to sick days? Or are these people just rude? I have so many other issues with them that I’m not even going to mention because out of 125 resumes, they were the only people who called me back, so beggar’s can’t be choosers. What do you think? shoudl i put in a complaint?
