Hi all,

This story about many children from ages 2-22 is so evil my heart can’t comprehend. The 22 year old lived there, they were so isolated they didn’t even know what the police were when they arrived on the scene. The 22 year old and the siblings were shackled in chains and the 17 year old daughter escaped after her chained brothers and sisters woke up in the middle on the night crying saying they couldn’t take it anymore.

I usually can’t read articles like this and havent for many years because it affects me so very much. Just yesterday I got a prayer answered after 3.5 years and after reading this article it makes me feel weird. Like what I prayed for was nothing compared to this. Am I deluding myself I ask myself thinking God did me a favor when things like this are going on??? That question is stuck in my head.

And ofcourse, the enemy tells me “See? Do you really think God is helping you when so many others are living in house of horrors just like this one?, you and your puny problems you think God solved”

I feel a little sick actually and I desperately needed my brothers and sisters in Christ to give their perspective who have a stronger mind and faith than I do. Please.

Sorry if my question is all over the place I’m just a little numb with this, I know evil has gone on forever but those poor children…and here I am thinking God answered my prayer of something difficult for me but could never compare to this. I will pray for them ofcourse.

Thank you so much for listening.

I’m not sure if you’re just reading this now, but it is old news. These people were arrested months ago. We had threads on it at the time. The story is just making the rounds again because the parents are only just now being charged.

We all have different sensitivities to different kinds of articles/ stories. Some people can read this without becoming emotionally upset, although they are glad that the children are now safe and justice is being done. Some people who are more emotionally affected by child abuse stories, or lived through abuse or had a friend who did, may be more affected by reading the story. If these stories have a bad effect on you, perhaps you should avoid reading them.

As for “your puny problems”, God is just as interested in your problems as he is in those of abused children, war refugees, or people who are getting tortured and killed somewhere. He has a limitless well of interest and love. To the extent you can put your own problems in perspective and “count your blessings” that you had good parents or aren’t suffering or whatever, that’s good because it reminds you to thank God and be grateful for the good in your life and maybe to help others who don’t have it so good (like contribute to a charity or just be kind - the one girl said she was bullied at school because she smelled bad). But you shouldn’t use stories like this as an excuse to say God doesn’t care about what’s bothering you or God could not be responsible for anything good in your life when bad things happen to others. That is wrong thinking.

Just pray for the children and even for their parents (who for all we know may be mentally ill themselves) and remember to thank God for your blessings and maybe do something nice for someone else today. Then move on.

Thank you. I was in a waiting area when this appeared on the screen, even while looking away i still heard bits. I will pray for them, I used to ask my mom about these things as a child (i’m in my forties) and she always said the same thing “these things have been happening since before our Lord walked the earth”. While that is true and for some reason i can’t explain does offer a small consolation, it still leaves me to wonder about the years they suffered. These children (one almost 30) endured this their whole life. i wonder “did they pray? did they know God? did they have times of joy before they were chained every night”. A part of me sees God so angry at the parents just waiting for judgment day since He is a God of justice too. A thought occurred to me that these children will have special places in heaven (a teenager was said to be so weak muscled her arms were like that of an infant). Hearing stories like these and thinking of the Jesus I love and pray to gives my spirit an ugly fear I can’t describe, one related to faith. It reminds me of a Bible verse that says something like try not to know things above your level of understanding. It helped a little to express these thoughts. Thank you Tis Bear. God Bless you

You probably run into people who lived childhoods like this every day (or more often than you think) without realizing it.

What you can do is learn how to be a friend. The truth is that besides being aware of strange situations some adults do hide and abuse their kids in a way no one else can see.

So help the adults. Help the homeless and the drug addicted. Help the struggling single mom. Because many have horrific childhood stories. But none have the media’s ear…so they are in silence, unwanted, unloved and usually just as cruelly treated by society as they were by their parents.

yes, very true and a sad reality. thank you very much for your thoughts on this.
